Flowers in June

Standard

June is perfect for cheery flowers! And this is a supper cute little flower patch!!  (That’s actually the name of the stamp set!!  Flower Patch!)  I always have grand visions of making cute little gardens in the summer… but I never do it… at least in an actual garden.  I much prefer to garden on paper.  These flowers never die.

I love these flowers… they’re so easy to make a cheerful collage on calendars or cards.  Enjoy!

Dabbling in Mixed Media

Standard

So…  I needed a little pick me up for some one.  My sister has been dealing with a health issue that docs say isn’t a big deal, but to her and those of us around her, seems to be quite scary.  And, getting through all of it is a process.  So, I wanted to do something or make something that I could send her… and that is difficult, being 5,000 miles away…

BUT.  I kept hearing this song on the radio that I truly believe God gave to me to be a prayer for her.  And, the radio seemed to play it ALL the time, so it was a good reminder for me to pray for her and her family.

I decided to make a picture frame, with some of the words of the song in the frame.  I had these frames lying around (I bought them for another project, which is only about a 1/10 of the way started…that will be for another post.)

Anyway, I love these frames.  They are made from MDF (and I have no idea what that means, but it’s the same stuff our baseboards are made of… it’s wood-like, but not real wood) and MDF is super smooth so it’s easy to paint.

I apologize for the pics, that they are sideways, but it’s just the painting process so I decided to not figure out how to change it… 🙂

So, the MDF is a wood-like color…

image

And, I slopped some brown paint on it cause I wanted brown to show through some white paint…

wpid-20150201_164628.jpg

And, then I coated it with a cream colored chalk paint.  I love chalk paint.  Cause it’s super easy.  I used a wet rag to rub the edges off so you see some of the brown through…

image

And here you go… I decided instead of spraying it with a clear coat, I wanted to use some of the waxing cream.  I am a fan of the CeCe Caldwell waxing cream…image

This is the finished product!!  I made the insert using My Digital Studio… and just had a picture printed at walgreens cause I was too impatient to wait for for MDS to arrive…image

I made a few paper flowers in the decor to match her house to add as embellishment.  These are the colors that are in her house.image

imageHere it is in her house…

And final, a finished product…

imageAnd, sis… we are all still praying for you… that God will provide continual healing and that He will show you beyond your depth of your understanding that HE IS holding on to you…

O May, O May

The Merry Month Of May…

To a school teacher, this month is full of anticipation of lazy summer days full of relaxation. However, the actual month itself is CRAZY BUSY.  Especially a school teacher of high school seniors.  So, in efforts to help maintain calm, and remind me of the lazy summer days, I chose this serene flower set…  It’s perfect for Mother’s Day too!!

image

This set is called “Bloom With Hope” and it’s a hostess set for the 2014-2015 Stampin’ Up! catalog.  Which, if you LOVE the set, you only have a month left to host a party and get it before it is gone forever….

Well, happy May to you and may you also have dreams of lazy summer days ahead…

A sewing experiment

Standard

So.  I’ve been dabbling a bit in sewing.  And decided to make some burp rags.  Cause they are cute.  And fun.  And within my sewing expertise (which is a forward, straight line).  I have a sewing machine cause several years back my  mom got a new one and CARRIED ON THE AIRPLANE her old one to bring to me one time when she came to visit.  Nice mama.  I had to have that machine cause it’t the only one I know where the power button is.  And how to make it sew forward in a straight line.

image

Anyway, I saw this fabric in the store and just LOVED it and needed a project for it.  SO, I decided some burp cloths would be fun.  Cause it’s always nice to have a stash of things when you need a gift, and these are great baby gifts.  When my oldest was born, a good friend gave us about 15 burp cloths she sewed on like this… and we happened to be in the mainland at the time and my husband didn’t think we could fit it all in the luggage.  He wanted to leave some behind.  WELL.  I didn’t allow that , of course, and about a month after the baby came, he declared these were the BEST BABY GIFT we ever received.  My children spit up.  a lot.  Anyway…  If you need a baby gift, I have a stash… just let me know!!  You can leave a comment and I will get back to you.

April!!

Standard

I love April! And spring! And Easter! It’s so cheery. So I thought a cheery page would be perfect.

I used the splot stamp from Gorgeous Grunge to make the background and punched the butterfly from a piece of embossed scrap. Can’t get any easier than that!

Happy Spring!

Standard

Spring is probably my most favorite season… Well… Till the next one comes, then that is my most favorite season. But, I suppose, as a school teacher, spring always signals what is to come. A couple more months then summer break. Which is the most lovely of all seasons….

I digress.

Spring. I love the flowers. The cool winds. New. Everything seems fresh.

So, with yesterday being the first day of spring, I thought I’d celebrate with these cute little pots!

image

These are those seed starter pots you find in the garden section. And for the record, fake grass and candied easter eggs is about the only kind of gardening I’m capable of.  Anyway… I used the “From the Garden” stamp set and “Handpicked” coordinating framelits.  its easy cause they also come as a bundle!

image

It’s a super cute little set!  And here is a little 3×3 card I made to go with it:

image

I was also thinking the little garden picks would make fun little cupcake picks… Glue a toothpick or skewer on the back! Perfect in some spring cupcakes….

Imagine how fun it would be to take these to your coworkers or friends for a perfect spring treat…

Hello MARCH!  What a glorious little birdie to welcome March!

These stamp are all from a hostess stamp set called “Hello Love”.  It’s one of my favorites.  And, for those of you buried in snow, it’s a good little reminder that spring is on it’s way.  Here on Maui, we had a bout of winter weather today.  Our winter weather. (It rained all day).  I do love Maui winters.

A Birthday Basket

A Birthday Basket

I needed a birthday gift.  But it had to be a stampin’ birthday gift cause it was for a stampin’ friend…

image

And I had just received my new Spring Occasions Catalog worth of stuff so, I thought I’d play around…

Here’s the card:

image

The words for this card are from the Celebrate Today stamp set.  I love layering them one on top of each other…

image

Sorry, but I cut the flowers.  They’re from the Best Day Ever Salebration Stamp Set (which is FREE with a $50 purchase).  And, do you notice the little heart??  It fits PERFECT in the scallop border punch.

image

For the gift, I just got a gift card, which is a universal delight.  But, to jazz it up a bit, I made a gift card envelope with the gift card framelit (which is still available, btw).  And, I wanted to present it in something special… so I put together the berry basket.  IT IS SUPER CUTE.  LOVE THE BASKET (and stay tuned, there will be more baskets in the future).  The DSP used here is also the SAB Best Year Ever DSP…

So, there… The birthday Basket.

You know you want one…  🙂

You have less than 24 hours….

Valentine’s is coming. And if you are like me, it’s one of those holidays that just kind of sneaks up on you (confession: they all sneak up on me). But I’m trying to do my due diligence and send out fair warning. VALENTINE’S IS TOMORROW. Ladies. Feel free to forward this to your husbands as well. Valentine’s. Day. Tomorrow.

Anyway, I enjoy this holiday cause it’s not as stressful as Christmas. And its a fun holiday cause chocolate is generally the food of choice when celebrating it. Which is fine by me.

So, in prepararion, Isaac needed some treats for his classmates. And so we made some.

wpid-20150210_181750.jpg

Okay. Lots.

20150210_192419

Isaac was my sprinkle-putter-on-er.  Yes. That is the official title.  These are those wafer cookies, strawberry flavored, of course. Dipped in almond bark. And heart sprinkled. And when I ran out of cookies, we switched to grahams. Both of which are delicious when covered in sugar and then more sugar.

And here is what they look like all packaged up:

20150212_061819

Its hard to see the candy. But they’re in a fry box and the tag is made with the super cute cheerful critters stamp set.  Blendabilities makes coloring this super easy…

20150212_061836

And here are some more fast, easy valentines that you can get together before tomorrow:

20150212_061857

And

20150212_061917

Both are from the You Plus Me Stamp set.

If making them isn’t an option at this point, and you live on Maui… Then head over to Perfection Bra Fitting. In Wailuku… On Central.  See Terri.  She has some of my hand made valentines in her store. And all you will have to do is sign the insides. Super easy. And if you are interested in her services (her incredible brafitting services) let me know. I have a coupon for you to get $5 off your purchase (for first time customers). Fittings are free. And she is amazing.

So. Happy Valentine’s Day to you.

I know pink and hearts are a little cliche for Valentine’s but I couldn’t resist.  I love this little rain cloud.  It’s so sweet…

I used a hostess stamp set from the 2014-14 Idea Book and Catalog called Hello Love.  It’s a fun little set.  Has lots of various images to do different things.  Spoiler Alert:  You will see this set again in the calendar series…  🙂
