Singing in March

Standard

Even though spring doesn’t OFFICIALLY begin until later March, if you ask me, I start looking to spring as soon as we turn the calendar page to March. And what better way is there to bring in March than with this songbird?

Costal Cabana is the perfect color for our sweet soloist. And, spring blooms with flirty flamingo flowers and pear pizzazz leaves. I love this stamp set. Such sweet imagery is perfect for cards and calendars!

For me, March means SPRING BREAK is imminent. And, then it’s whirlwind of crazy which seems to fly by and THEN IT IS SUMMER. Glorious summer. Now, I realize we have 2 more calendar pages before summer, but IT IS GETTING SO CLOSE. I can FEEL it.

Always a reason to Celebrate

Standard

I love celebrating. And I love flowers. So, I knew this Celebrate With Flowers stamp set needed to be part of my collection.

I mean, just look how happy it is! I was attracted to the simple line art and the quirkiness of it when I saw it, and I just love the variety of ways you can make it work. I also love that it lends itself to a unique style of card (think slim-line) as well. The inclusion of the vertical Happy Birthday is also what attracted me to this set–different than the norm, and unexpected! (I will include a pic of the images below).

So, for April, I hope you can find something to celebrate! And, while doing so, make some pretty flowers to go along with the celebration!

Go check out what Anne and Cheryl have for you today!

PS: This stamp set is currently available, but it will NOT be available for much longer! It’s being retired at the end of this month (but, will only be around while supplies last!) So, if you want to own one, you better snatch it up FAST! If you message me, I can help you do that!

Sharing Sunshine

Standard

HAPPY MARCH! This month is brought to you by Stampin’ Up’s Sharing Sunshine stamp set. And, this is the PERFECT name for this cheery little smile that will just brighten your day!

I used daffodil delight paper for the mat and the sun punch out, and then used bumble bee for the rays and face. A little of blush blossom makes the rosy cheeks! The best part of this month is very hard to see in photos… but I did a little spritz with the champagne mist and alcohol in one of our spritzers. Gives a perfect shimmer to this sunshine!

Here in Hawaii, we don’t have the marked changes of seasons that others around the globe may enjoy– but, there are subtle signs… The day is lasting a little longer and longer… I’m seeing the warmer glows of the sun as it slowly moves higher and higher into the sky… Summer is just around the corner…

Go check out what Anne and Cheryl have for you today!

Beautiful Promenade

Standard

April, of course, makes me think of Easter, Spring, and all things pretty and pastel. Though I now live in the tropics, I still feel that sense of spring time coming and shaking off the cold dreariness of winter and making all things new and fresh.

And, that’s exactly what I wanted this flower to be! Something new and fresh. It’s the simple flower image from the stamp set, Beautiful Promenade.

I love the simplicty of the flower, and it gave me PERFECT opportunity to color with my blends. (I cannot tell you how much I enjoy coloring with these.) I decided to use the Hyland Heather and Purple Posey variations to create my lavenders in this flower.

Coloring is such a relaxing past time for me. And, I think it is a good one to occupy my time during this ‘extended at home staycation’. Speaking of, how’s everyone doing? Hope you are staying well. I must admit, I was a little worried (and still am) about being home for 5 weeks WITH littles, non stop… but, I am kind of enjoying it! (We’re only a week in…) But, we’ve been working on some projects as a family and it’s been GOOD. Productive.

Praying for your safety and continued wellness. Our thoughts, prayers, and gratitude are with our front line health care workers. I’m praying that we come out of this with a greater sense of care and understanding for those around us.

Happy Little Spring Piggy

Standard

I am not sure what it is about pigs that makes them so cute, but…my, they are cute. Stampin Up’s This Little Pig set is no exception. When I saw this set and the pig dancing with the flower, I just KNEW it had to be part of my calendar.

The Stampin’ Blends make coloring this cute little piggy a BREEZE. I love that you can layer on the color to add intensity and depth. And, having two hues of the same color really helps to make the shading possible. I love the fact that the alcohol ink doesn’t leave the streaks that regular markers would either.

I’m happy to be welcoming spring with This Little Piggy celebration! Stop by Anne and Cheryl’s blogs to see how they’re welcoming March!

Hello Spring

Standard

Though we seem to be in the still very cool (ish) weather of a Maui winter, we know spring is coming!

I just loved this little stamp set. It was a hostess offering in the spring 2018 occasions catalog called Yay You. And I fell in love with the little banner stamp.

I love that the pennant can be used for just about any occasion and it kind of reminded me of those decorative flags you could put out on the front porch that changed with the seasons…. This one is welcoming spring!

Hope you are having a great start to march!

Check out what Anne and Cheryl have for you as well!

BLOSSOMS!!

Standard
BLOSSOMS!!

I may have just done something I have NEVER done before… Used a stamp NOT from Stampin’ Up!  (GASP).  Before you go calling the authorities, hear me out…  let me plead my case.

Here in Hawaii we celebrate a holiday called Girls’ Day (On March 3–which also happens to be the birthday of my oldest son…)  And, Girls’ Day is a big deal here.  And, it is traditionally celebrated by displaying Japanese Dolls, but I didn’t have any stamps like that, so I chose the cherry blossom.  Cause that’s the only other stamp that I had that was remotely close… (When, you see my post for May, celebrating Boys’ Day, you will understand what compelled me to try to do something for the girls… you know, equal treatment…) 🙂

I do love this cherry blossom stamp.  It is feminine, gorgeous, and a perfect way to usher in spring and the newness that spring brings.  And, I used little dollops of the wink of stella to make it shimmer just a bit (ALL the paper–pink pirouette and whisper white– and ink –soft suede and pink pirouette) are from Stampin’ Up… so I haven’t completely disowned my upbringing…

Happy Spring!

Standard

Spring is probably my most favorite season… Well… Till the next one comes, then that is my most favorite season. But, I suppose, as a school teacher, spring always signals what is to come. A couple more months then summer break. Which is the most lovely of all seasons….

I digress.

Spring. I love the flowers. The cool winds. New. Everything seems fresh.

So, with yesterday being the first day of spring, I thought I’d celebrate with these cute little pots!

image

These are those seed starter pots you find in the garden section. And for the record, fake grass and candied easter eggs is about the only kind of gardening I’m capable of.  Anyway… I used the “From the Garden” stamp set and “Handpicked” coordinating framelits.  its easy cause they also come as a bundle!

image

It’s a super cute little set!  And here is a little 3×3 card I made to go with it:

I was also thinking the little garden picks would make fun little cupcake picks… Glue a toothpick or skewer on the back! Perfect in some spring cupcakes….

Imagine how fun it would be to take these to your coworkers or friends for a perfect spring treat…

BLOOM!!

Standard
Welcome to the next installment of the Pin-worthy Blog Tour…  This month’s theme is Eggstra Creative!!  It’s supposed to be Easter, but I decided to take more of a Spring-y approach just because I wanted to make my decor to last longer than the Easter holiday…
So, I decided to use the banner kit from the SAB catalog as a starting point or this project (it’s FREE with a $50 purchase!!  Heartfelt Banner Kit, 133514)  I must confess, I’ve been bitten by the banner bug.  Had a WONDERFUL time with them at Christmas, loving them still now.  They are so fun to make and these kits make it SO easy…
Anyway. You should have seen me trying to get good pictures of this.  I’m not set up for many things much bigger than cards…

The SAB brochure shows using the paper clips to attach photos to the banner.  Which is an excellent idea.  But, I wanted to spring it up, so I cut out scallop circles (sorry, this particular die was retired, it is the large scallop on the 2 scallop die).  And, embossed them.  Then, I cut out the letters for bloom and put it them on.

I was super inspired by the cover of the latest issue of Stampin’ Success (one of the many perks of being a demonstrator) and their creped filter paper flowers.  So, I had to make a few.  That’s where the ideas for the flowers came from.  I used the Fun Flowers Bigz die to make the flowers, as well as the 7/8 scallop circle punch, and the Itty Bitty Shapes Punch Pack.  I died the flowers by dipping them into rubbing alcohol and reinker.  Then you smooch and scrunch, and ruffle and fluff.  They are fun to make while you are watching TV…

Here it is hung up on the mirror in my entry way…  And, the bottom is the wreath kit from the Spring Occasions catalog… They go well together…  These would be fun to make and send to someone as a nice piece of decor for their home… Mine is gonna be boxed up and shipped out soon… just to send some spring to someone special!!

Need a Tag?

Standard

So…  I finally opened the box of the ‘Pop Up Posies Designer Kit’ (item #131395, $12.95).  I have no IDEA why I waited so long to play with these.

I needed some tags for a couple of gift bags of tea I was making, so I thought these tags would be a good, springy tag to put on…

20130311_211420

They come with pool party, calypso coral and very vanilla paper flowers and 9 brads, some twine, and the crumb cake pre-embossed, diecut tag.  AND, it comes with that just for you stamp (It’s worth it just to get the stamp).  For these tags, I used the antique brads instead of what came with the kit, cause my club members are making a version of this this weekend!!  (sorry to spoil the surprise…) The kit says it makes 9, but you could make MANY more than that (with the paper flowers anyway)… by supplying different brads.  I also added the ribbon pieces to the back of the flowers, just to give it a little extra..

You can curl the petals with your bone folder…

Here it is, all packaged UP!!

20130311_212700

I just LOVE how stuff looks in cellophane!!  It makes it look finished… and the recipients of these gifts are gonna be so much more excited because it LOOKS exciting…

Here is the kit131395S

There are so many ideas of things you can do with this kit!!  I will try to get some more samples.   One GOOD idea is to get the kit, and make up all the tags… just to have a stash of tags when you need to get a quick gift together.  They’re so cheerful they will put a smile on ANYONE’s face.

Stop back by on Sunday!!  We will have our next installment of the “BEST OF…” Blog tour… Featuring the “BEST OF LOVE” stamp set!!
