Summertime Flowers

Standard

When I saw this stamp set, I KNEW it had to be on the calendar. My favorite part of it is (besides the fantastic flowers) IT IS ONLY 2 STAMPS!

This set is called Forever Lovely and it is a Distinktive Stamp Set (no, it’s not a typo, this is how it’s spelled). And, if you look close, you can see the gradations in the poppy ink. SU puts varying amounts of texture on the image itself to create these changes. So, you can get lots of variation out of ONE ink and stamp.

There is a small trick to helping this stamp better… The Stamparatus Deluxe Foam Mat makes a perfect stampin’ surface to help give it the cushion (like a red rubber stamp…has the foam) it needs to be able to contact the paper properly. I love this mat for all my general stamping… the you can wipe off the surface… it makes a perfect work mat.

Notice the enamel dots… I did not have black. BUT, you can color the surface with your blends to change the color. So, I grabbed whatever I had and colored away. It works perfectly.

I hope you are having a wonderful summer. It seems crazy to me that 2020 is half over (though, I must say, I am ready to MOVE ON).

Deck the Halls!

Standard

I LOVE decorating for Christmas (hate putting it away, but that is another post for another time).  When I saw this Season of Whimsy stamp set (2017 Holiday Catalog, host only stamp set), I KNEW I had to have it.  And, as a host only set, I had to strategically plan how I was gonna be able to earn it.  Hee Hee….

These ornaments are SO fun.  And they work perfectly for the watercolor wash look that is so popular right now (And, SO easy to do, because it doesn’t have to be perfect at all.

I chose traditional Christmas colors here (old olive and real red) and used crumb cake paper backing.  It’s fast and simple.

Hope you and your family have a wonderful Christmas season.  I hope you get to spend time making things (gifts, cookies, Christmas cards…).  These are the most fun times!

If you enjoy being creative and would like to make your own calendar, this year, I have something new for you: The PDFs of these calendars!  It will look exactly like the calendar above (same fonts) but will be 2019.  For $5 you can get the files (calendar, cover page, and cutting instructions) and make as many calendars as you would like!  These make PERFECT gifts for family, friends, co-workers.  The easels are available in many craft and hobby stores.  They fit perfectly in the Stampin’ UP! clear card boxes and make a gorgeous gift.  Fill out the form below and I will email you an invoice through square.  Once paid, I will email you the files!

TO ORDER AN EASEL CALENDAR:

Playing with Shapes

Standard

So!  Happy September!  I can’t believe this has come around so fast!  This calendar page is one of my favorites.  When the Holiday Catalog came out last fall, there was a stamp set called “Cheers to the Year” (now retired) that was meant for New Year’s.  Images of sparklers and wreaths for the holidays…  but, I LOVED the shapes.  The two different (what were supposed to be wreaths) circles had fabulous ‘texture’ and I really enjoyed putting them together to make some fun geometric patterns.

So, you can see here, the colors are light enough that they can be stamped over the text in the calendar and it still works.  The colors I used were Bermuda Bay, Night of Navy, and Lemon Lime twist.  The picture lighting isn’t the best but the cardstock is navy as well.

Happy September to you!  Head on over to see what Anne and Cheryl have for you!

Oh Happy Day

Oh Happy Day!!  July 4th is definitely a happy day!  It is when we can reflect on the freedoms we so enjoy….  and it also gives us time to pause and reflect on how we earned that freedom… by the sacrifice of so many… past and present…  I am so thankful…image

This little Banner Banter set is perfect for little flags.  I LOVE banners…  So festive.imageSpend some time with those you love enjoying the freedoms we have… and remember to thank someone who continues to sacrifice so we can enjoy those freedoms…

In Bloom

Standard

Like March, April reminds me of blooming and budding trees and flowers!  And, the Lighthearted Leaves stamp set (retired) allows me to accomplish BOTH for this month (a blooming tree…  well, kind of…)image

I love the Lighthearted Leaves set…  and the little flower punch is perfect here.  Pink Pirouette and Wild Wasabi give the perfect spring time color combination for this month.imageGo see what Anne and Cheryl have for you!

Dabbling in Mixed Media

Standard

So…  I needed a little pick me up for some one.  My sister has been dealing with a health issue that docs say isn’t a big deal, but to her and those of us around her, seems to be quite scary.  And, getting through all of it is a process.  So, I wanted to do something or make something that I could send her… and that is difficult, being 5,000 miles away…

BUT.  I kept hearing this song on the radio that I truly believe God gave to me to be a prayer for her.  And, the radio seemed to play it ALL the time, so it was a good reminder for me to pray for her and her family.

I decided to make a picture frame, with some of the words of the song in the frame.  I had these frames lying around (I bought them for another project, which is only about a 1/10 of the way started…that will be for another post.)

Anyway, I love these frames.  They are made from MDF (and I have no idea what that means, but it’s the same stuff our baseboards are made of… it’s wood-like, but not real wood) and MDF is super smooth so it’s easy to paint.

I apologize for the pics, that they are sideways, but it’s just the painting process so I decided to not figure out how to change it… 🙂

So, the MDF is a wood-like color…

And, I slopped some brown paint on it cause I wanted brown to show through some white paint…

And, then I coated it with a cream colored chalk paint.  I love chalk paint.  Cause it’s super easy.  I used a wet rag to rub the edges off so you see some of the brown through…

image

And here you go… I decided instead of spraying it with a clear coat, I wanted to use some of the waxing cream.  I am a fan of the CeCe Caldwell waxing cream…image

This is the finished product!!  I made the insert using My Digital Studio… and just had a picture printed at walgreens cause I was too impatient to wait for for MDS to arrive…image

I made a few paper flowers in the decor to match her house to add as embellishment.  These are the colors that are in her house.image

imageHere it is in her house…

And final, a finished product…

imageAnd, sis… we are all still praying for you… that God will provide continual healing and that He will show you beyond your depth of your understanding that HE IS holding on to you…

Christmas Collectibles

Standard

Hello Again!!  Welcome to the next stop on the next Stamp of the Month Blog Tour…

This month, I have for you a few projects for your Christmas gift needs…  A card, goodie box, and a goodie bag tag!  All perfect for your gift giving needs.  And, take my advice (and this is totally a “do as I say and not as I do” piece of unsolicited Christmas prepping advice).  START NOW.  then you don’t get overwhelmed in December.  (check back in with me in December and see how well I heeded my own advice).

So, here it is:

First up is the Christmas Card.  And I must confess, I got the color scheme from Pinterest.  The polka-dots from the Christmas paper (Season of Style) and the Coastal Cabana (just fyi, I love this color so much I’m thinking of painting my kitchen a shade of it…).

Very simple layout.  One of my favorite styles of cards (i.e. the 3×6).  Tag is cut from the Chalk Talk framelits set.  And, a piece of washi…  And, of course, after I made this and was so proud of myself, I realized that silver cord is retired.  But, we do have the perfect silver ribbon that would totally work.  I didn’t wanna take it off cause it’d never look quite right for me to re-do… and I didn’t feel like remaking everything… SORRY.  My apologies.

And, next up is a little gift tag.  This would go wonderfully on a gift, a cello bag of goodies, or you could even layer it up and put it on the front of a card:

I love how the coordinating punch works so well with this set.  And, you can punch a bazillion ornaments for all your ornament needs…  You could even make cute ornaments for your own tree.  The children would love to make it…

Just another view…

And, last up, is the little goodie box.  SU has expanded their packaging line, to my utter joy and excitement.  I LOVE PACKAGES.  And, the best gift, given in a junk package is not nearly as brilliant as if it were packaged well…  so, there is NO excuse for ugly packages this year…

ANYWAY… these boxes are super cute.  They have a clear slide that allows a peek at what is inside.  Don’t get too excited.  I had no idea what to put inside at this point (It’s October, and I’ve already alluded to my procrastination problem…) So, all I have inside this one is the brown crinkle paper.  Which makes it look cute, but the gift receiver may not be very excited about the gift…

20131011_184837

The nice thing about this box is that you can put belly bands ALL the way around the plastic sleeve and its FINE.  Cause the plastic sleeve slides off the box.  So your design stays nice and you can still get into the box.   BRILLIANCE I TELL YOU…. PURE BRILLIANCE.

Here is the set together:
