Graduation

Graduation

There are many unique traditions in  different locals and Hawaii isn’t immune. One of the lesser known cultural traditions is that holidays and celebrations can last months. It is perfectly acceptable to tell someone Happy New Year in February or March. I vaguely remember giving and receiving a Christmas gift in April. And Graduation Celebrating can last all summer. So. In Hawaii, this post is right on time.  🙂

Anyway. I needed a graduation card.  One thing I do with my stamp customers is have monthly club meetings*. That’s where we get together. Eat. (Always eat…delicious, delicious food) and stamp! It’s a highlight of my month. And for the last 2 years, one sweet young lady has attended with her grandmother. I’ve always been impressed with this because…well… let’s just say we are a bit more advanced in terms of…a..hem… well. You get it.  But I’ve always enjoyed watching her and her grandma interact and just enjoyed the relationship they shared. I can’t speak for them, but I just imagine this was just a special time for them to share together.  Anyway….  this is who the graduation card is for…

And since this is part on an extended celebration…cause I’m known for my extended punctuality… this was my first creation with the new in colors. (They’ve been sitting on my stamp desk for a month.)

I love them.

BlackBerry and Hello Honey. Now doesn’t that just sound delicious??

Here’s the color combo: basic gray, sahara sand,

I used the Pomp and Circumstance that was in the Occasions catalog. Sorry… its unavailable now. But you could substitute just about anything. There is a great set in the current catalog called Bravo that would be perfect.

I used the banner framelits to do all the layering. And the DSP is from the Moonlight Prints Pack.  Lets discuss Prints Packs for a moment.  SU has just started these in the last couple occasions catalogs and they are wonderful. It’s a pad of 48 sheets of paper that are 4.5×6.5  You get 4 each of 12 double-sided designs.  It’s great for little pieces of DSP on cards when you don’t want to cut into a whole piece of 12×12.  I love it!  And, they’re only $6.95.

Of course, I needed an envelope.  Envelope punch board to the rescue!  I made this out of the Smokey Slate.

And I wanted to make a money holder cause I know that is the perfect graduate gift.

image

For the money slot, just cut a panel slightly smaller than your card inside and glue on 3 sides. Then punch any shape you wish…I used the oval…about half way. This gives a space so the bills peek out and you can grab them easily.  You could redo the sizing easily and make this fit gift cards as well.

And there you go!

Happy Graduation Jenna! Best of luck to you!

A Grunge Birthday

Standard

So…  When we returned from convention, mauistamper organized a stamp a stack for our downlines to play with new convention sets and talk about convention…  and all exciting new stuffs.  This was one of the cards we made:

It utilizes the Gorgeous Grunge (which I LOVE) and a simple tag.  Could make this ANY kind of card by changing the tag.  So easy.

And, of course, I needed an idea of something for club to do, so I changed it a little and made this:

Exact same thing.  Changed colors, added a candle made from the “Tape-it” stamp set (the candle idea was cased from Stampin Success).  Used the bird wing from the bird punch to make the flame.    Simple!!

I get a lot of requests for manly cards.  And I’m always at a loss for what exactly that means, I think this could qualify.  Could change the color to green or a darker blue.  Or black or gray… would be more manly..

And, speaking of birthdays…. I kinda forgot about mine.  Not my ACTUAL birthday…but my Stampin’ Up! birthday.  I received this in the mail:

Very exciting.  I knew it was coming, but it just kind of slipped my mind…  what a nice surprise.  And, who can believe it’s been that long!!??!!

A Graduation Celebration

Standard

So… a few weeks ago, Aaron’s aunty and cousin asked if I would give them a little guidance on decorating for Elyse’s (said cousin) high school graduation party.

I don’t think they knew what they were getting into…. asking me….

I LOVE parties and decorating and all of it. So, I think I scared them a bit, but we had lots of fun.

Anyway. Elyse had been collecting ideas off of pinterest.  And she wanted this one idea where you use book pages to make table runners. So we started there. And had to sacrifice some books (sad, but they went to good use).  And she made these awesome rosettes that we tried to incorporate where we could.  (She showed me one and I gave her homework to make about a million more.)

So… here it is!

image

That’s Elyse. Isn’t she beautiful? And she’s standing next to the desserts.  We used the same book idea and a stash of that First Edition DSP that I nearly had to trade my first born for….to make the pennants.  The colors used were strawberry slush, costal cabana, wisteria wonder, and daffodil delight.

image

Diploma display. If you look close you can see the table runner. We made scallop edges out of card stock and the tasteful trim die to add color.

image

Instead of a guest book we had people sign these cards…and write a “key to success”.  Notice the little key??  I punched a hole in the corner to put them on a book ring.  These will be great for her to read while she is away at school…

image

These are those rosettes she made. I have no idea how. But that little burlapy thing is the favor. A remake of my convention burlapy thingy. Only hers has 2 nuggets.

image

Oh yeah… it was a tea! I shoulda led with that.  Anyway… we used decorated mason jars for stuff we needed contained. Like cutlery.

image

And cause we had extra pennants, burlap, and jars…. we made some jars of pennants! Cause everyone loves festive pennants.  Filled the jar with heavy stuff and covered it with brown crinkle paper.

image

And all the festivity made Isaac tired. We couldn’t find him at one point and got to looking for him and found him passed out on Elyse’s bed.

Anyway. These congratulations are way late and Elyse has already started classes at Oklahoma Baptist University.  (My and Aaron’s alma mater) I’m excited to see what is in store for her and how God will use her! Its exciting to know that she is there with my little sister.  I’m not sure Bison Hill is gonna know what hit it…

BISON! GO WITH KA-RIP!
