Blessings

Standard

Ahhhh…. November. Thanksgiving.  One of my favorite holidays.  I like it because it doesn’t have all the hustle that surrounds Christmas.  And it gives us a moment to pause, and count our blessings…image

This stamp set came with the Gratitude for Days Kit from last year’s occasion’s mini catalog.  So again, it is retired…

I hope you have a chance to rest and enjoy this month before all the busyness.  I seem to be overwhelmed with busyness as of late, and need this little reminder to be thankful…

Christmas in October

Standard

Don’t adjust your computer settings.  You are INDEED seeing 2 blog posts in the same month.  It’s an October Miracle.

I wanted to share with you some items I made for my club groups this past month.  They wanted to get a head start on Christmas crafting, so our theme was, well… Christmas.  (In the craft world, it  is acceptable to start Christmas crafting before Halloween… just fyi.)

image

I just got these wonderful ornament framelits.  (Delicate Ornaments)  actually comes as a bundle with the stamps… called Embellished Ornaments bundle.  (I didn’t actually use the stamps here, but they are nice).

image

These pictures don’t do this justice.  But, I cut the ornaments out of the dazzling diamonds glimmer paper.  And OH MY.  I hadn’t bought that paper till now, but it is GORGEOUS.  Makes me want to buy enough to wallpaper my house.  It’s beautifully sparkly, but subtle, as to not overdo everything.

This first pic (above) I decorated one of our Kraft Tag a Bag Gift Bags .(They’re awesome cause they are only $3.50 for 10.)  I love that they are plain…. they are just WAITING for something cute to go on them!

I used a bit of the Tip Top Taupe lace trim and silver sequin trim to complete the top of the ornament.  The peace is from the Christmas Greetings Thinlits,  I cut it out of silver foil.  LOVE the silver foil.  I’m very impressed with it because it’s more of a card stock and not paper.  So, it is sturdier than I expected it to be.

image

This is the same concept but applied to the Pillow Box.  I love this little thinlit.  It is PERFECT for little treats or a gift card.  A Christmas Crafting MUST-HAVE.  You can choose to make it with or without the window.  (I should have treats inside, but didn’t have anything at the time of the photograph…need to go shopping).  I textured the front with the ‘Softly Falling’ Textured Impressions Embossing Folder….

image

And here is a card with the same design… I did this to show how you can use one simple design and make it work for a variety of options.  The card stock I used on the card and the pillow box is the Tip Top Taupe.  The bow on the card and pillow box is the new silver twine.  We’ve been waiting for this twine.  The card picture is the best one to see the Dazzling Details Glimmer Paper, but it still isn’t that great… you will have to trust me on this… it is amazing.

Anyway, hope this inspires you as you start on your Christmas crafting!!

August

Standard

Happy August!!

I love banners.  I love making them… I love stamping them… They are so festive.  So, for August, and the ‘title page’ to the calendar, I decided to make a little banner…  This uses the Perfect Pennants Stamp Set (the ‘you made my day’ image) and Banner Blast (now retired, so sad…)…  But, these little banners are so fast and fun…

imageAnd, I love the Smokey Slate color with the pastels used on the banner.  Makes you think of calm, cool, and breezy in a month that could be very warm.  Helping you to have your own mini vacay… even if it is just for a moment in your imagination.

Happy July!!!

I know this isn’t a unique use of the “Work Of Art” stamp set, but I just had to make watermelon for July.  Watermelon seems to embody everything SUMMER.  So, I just had to do it.  imageIsn’t it refreshing??!!

Flowers in June

Standard

June is perfect for cheery flowers! And this is a supper cute little flower patch!!  (That’s actually the name of the stamp set!!  Flower Patch!)  I always have grand visions of making cute little gardens in the summer… but I never do it… at least in an actual garden.  I much prefer to garden on paper.  These flowers never die.

I love these flowers… they’re so easy to make a cheerful collage on calendars or cards.  Enjoy!

Dabbling in Mixed Media

Standard

So…  I needed a little pick me up for some one.  My sister has been dealing with a health issue that docs say isn’t a big deal, but to her and those of us around her, seems to be quite scary.  And, getting through all of it is a process.  So, I wanted to do something or make something that I could send her… and that is difficult, being 5,000 miles away…

BUT.  I kept hearing this song on the radio that I truly believe God gave to me to be a prayer for her.  And, the radio seemed to play it ALL the time, so it was a good reminder for me to pray for her and her family.

I decided to make a picture frame, with some of the words of the song in the frame.  I had these frames lying around (I bought them for another project, which is only about a 1/10 of the way started…that will be for another post.)

Anyway, I love these frames.  They are made from MDF (and I have no idea what that means, but it’s the same stuff our baseboards are made of… it’s wood-like, but not real wood) and MDF is super smooth so it’s easy to paint.

I apologize for the pics, that they are sideways, but it’s just the painting process so I decided to not figure out how to change it… 🙂

So, the MDF is a wood-like color…

image

And, I slopped some brown paint on it cause I wanted brown to show through some white paint…

wpid-20150201_164628.jpg

And, then I coated it with a cream colored chalk paint.  I love chalk paint.  Cause it’s super easy.  I used a wet rag to rub the edges off so you see some of the brown through…

image

And here you go… I decided instead of spraying it with a clear coat, I wanted to use some of the waxing cream.  I am a fan of the CeCe Caldwell waxing cream…image

This is the finished product!!  I made the insert using My Digital Studio… and just had a picture printed at walgreens cause I was too impatient to wait for for MDS to arrive…image

I made a few paper flowers in the decor to match her house to add as embellishment.  These are the colors that are in her house.image

imageHere it is in her house…

And final, a finished product…

imageAnd, sis… we are all still praying for you… that God will provide continual healing and that He will show you beyond your depth of your understanding that HE IS holding on to you…

O May, O May

Standard

The Merry Month Of May…

To a school teacher, this month is full of anticipation of lazy summer days full of relaxation. However, the actual month itself is CRAZY BUSY.  Especially a school teacher of high school seniors.  So, in efforts to help maintain calm, and remind me of the lazy summer days, I chose this serene flower set…  It’s perfect for Mother’s Day too!!

image

This set is called “Bloom With Hope” and it’s a hostess set for the 2014-2015 Stampin’ Up! catalog.  Which, if you LOVE the set, you only have a month left to host a party and get it before it is gone forever….

image

Well, happy May to you and may you also have dreams of lazy summer days ahead…

Check out what Anne and Cheryl have for you today…

April!!

Standard

I love April! And spring! And Easter! It’s so cheery. So I thought a cheery page would be perfect.

image

I used the splot stamp from Gorgeous Grunge to make the background and punched the butterfly from a piece of embossed scrap. Can’t get any easier than that!

Happy Spring!

Standard

Spring is probably my most favorite season… Well… Till the next one comes, then that is my most favorite season. But, I suppose, as a school teacher, spring always signals what is to come. A couple more months then summer break. Which is the most lovely of all seasons….

I digress.

Spring. I love the flowers. The cool winds. New. Everything seems fresh.

So, with yesterday being the first day of spring, I thought I’d celebrate with these cute little pots!

image

These are those seed starter pots you find in the garden section. And for the record, fake grass and candied easter eggs is about the only kind of gardening I’m capable of.  Anyway… I used the “From the Garden” stamp set and “Handpicked” coordinating framelits.  its easy cause they also come as a bundle!

image

It’s a super cute little set!  And here is a little 3×3 card I made to go with it:

image

I was also thinking the little garden picks would make fun little cupcake picks… Glue a toothpick or skewer on the back! Perfect in some spring cupcakes….

Imagine how fun it would be to take these to your coworkers or friends for a perfect spring treat…

Hello Love!

Hello Love!

Hello MARCH!  What a glorious little birdie to welcome March!

image

These stamp are all from a hostess stamp set called “Hello Love”.  It’s one of my favorites.  And, for those of you buried in snow, it’s a good little reminder that spring is on it’s way.  Here on Maui, we had a bout of winter weather today.  Our winter weather. (It rained all day).  I do love Maui winters.
