Lessons for the New Year

Standard

It’s time again to turn the page for a new year! 2022 had been much anticipated with the ever elusive dream of returning to normal. Perhaps with that page turn, it’s time to consider a new dream:

We can look to the beautiful bamboo plant for some lessons– or more appropriately– use it as a guide for how we approach this new year.

In Asian cultures, bamboo is symbolic of good luck, longevity, strength, health… all the things we would wish for in the new year. I felt it fitting to be the January for 2022.

One of the prominent characteristics of bamboo is that it is strongly rooted, yet flexible. This allows it to bend in the wind without breaking. I think this is good advice… Though we are all weary of the last couple of years, it’s difficult to think about approaching this coming year with this type of advice. However, if we’ve learned anything is how resilient we can be. If we can approach this new year as one with the wishes of luck and long life, however with the understanding that winds come and things change… however those things mold us and shape us into who we are meant to be. We can bend without breaking because we are rooted in the foundation of our faith, family, and friends.

For this calendar, I used Soft Suede as the backing and the bamboo stalks. I stamped off so that it would be a little lighter to see over the numbers of the calendar. I made a stencil with a scrap card stock and punched out a circle. I lined it up with my calendar and used the blender brushes to create the sun (so saffron, mango melody). Super easy but creates a nice sunset.

Wishing you a happy and healthy 2022. Also wishing that you are able to remain rooted and established when the trials do come.

Anne and Cheryl have also created 2022 calendars to help ring in the New Year!!

Oh 2021. So happy to see you

Standard

I’m not sure that there has ever been a new year that we’ve looked forward with as much anticipation as we have this new year.

So I’m happy to have a fresh new calendar to welcome 2021 with! For January, I did step out of my comfort zone and used an actual snowman image. It always seems weird to me to do much with snowmen or other winter scenes as…well, our idea of winter is about 76 degrees and partly cloudy…

This happy guy is from Snowman Season and he’s happy to be celebrating 2021 as well. Just a few swipes with the pool party blend and that adds just enough color to make him come alive.

I too am looking forward to 2021, but I keep remind myself to not put unreasonable expectations on the idea that just because 2020 is over we will be free from challenges. 2020 was a rough year for us, personally and collectively (as it was for everyone). And as I think back through the year I am so thankful for the constants I had in my life. My faith and my family sustained me through some dark times. And as I see this collective burst of anticipation for 2021, I just want to make sure that my focus is not on the year or the newness or any of the things that can change but that it remains on the constant that never changes: That my faith is my constant support and my family will be there for me no matter what the days on this new calendar brings. My wish is that we hold on these lessons from 2020 and they become the solid foundation for us in 2021.

I wish you the best of New Years and I’m hoping you can celebrate with those you love most (even if it is on FaceTime).

Also! I have a handful of these completed calendars left. You will get a new image each month to brighten up your space. If your interested in one, contact me and we can work out the details!

Hello 2020!!

Standard

Happy New Year! I cannot believe it’s the new year again. My mind and body still feel like they’re back in September. And even more than that…I cannot believe it’s 2020. A whole new decade. 2020 was that fictious year back in the 80s when I was playing with my friends that I felt like was SOOOOO far into the future that we would be flying around Jetson style with personal jetpacks.

Anyway, I hope this new year and new decade will be a new start. Fresh. A beginning. Don’t get me wrong, I am thankful for the memories and lessons and friendships I’ve made, but I love a new year like getting a fresh clean notebook. So many options for how to begin.

So, we begin this year with THIS Happy New Year Celebration Stamp Set. It was stamp set that was originally released to the Japanese market, but demand was strong for it in Hawaii, so they released it to us! New Years here is a BIG deal and such a fun celebration.

I’m excited for what this year will bring. And I’m happy to celebrate the New Year with loved ones. I’m also very thankful for my stampin’ friends. You inspire me to new creativity each year.

Happy 2019!!

Standard

2019 is HERE! I cannot believe how fast it came upon us! I am trying to become more intentional as time seems to speed up…because I feel that the memories go by so fast.

For the calendar this year I am doing something that is a break from the ‘normal’ Happy New Year page… I wanted it to be more of a resolution or a mantra for how to approach the year. AND…I got to use one of my favorite stamp sets…Rooted In Nature.

I fell in love with this simple set. It has a variety of trees and leaves and can make just about ANYTHING. The coordinating framelits also make cutting the images out a breeze.

For this month I used (left to right) blackberry bliss, berry burst, and rich razzleberry. The cardstock background is Berry Burst. The velum overlay has the sentiment that also comes with the Rooted In Nature set.

Happy 2019 to you. I hope it is a year of intentional memories and time with your loved ones.

I also have just a handful of these calendars left! If you would like one, leave a comment and I will contact you about getting one to you!

Happy 2014 to YOU!!

So, here is a little peak at one of my FAVORITE project and classes that I have been doing every year for the past several years.  I love these little easel calendars.  They are so fun to create and fun to give as gifts!!  This year, we have something special for you… There are only 3 of the Maui Stampers that make their own versions of these calendars, but we decided to put together a little blog hop for you to see our creations.  It’s fun to see everyone’s different take on every month!!

So, for you on this FIRST day of January 2014 (It’s gonna take me till April to type 2014 on the first try…) I have the cover of page of the calendar and January…

First, the cover page:

I love that quote, “Live the Life You’ve Imagined”.  I’m reminded often that my response to situations is what makes my circumstances good or bad.  And, that is the most critical in determining my happiness or what I get out of different situations…  I don’t have to be an observer of life, but can LIVE it.  And, am excited about this prospect in 2014…

This cover page was created with one of my favorite sets:  Tape it.  And, I use Crisp Cantaloupe, Pistachio Pudding, So Saffron, Baked Brown Sugar inks and the Pistachio card stock for the backing.

And now for January:

This little snow man I received FREE from the SU Convention.  Which I’m happy about, cause I’m not sure I would have bought it. It seems a little weird to live on Maui and do lots of stuff with snowflakes, snowmen, and such other winter scene icons…  So, it was fun to play with a set I don’t normally use.  This particular one is called Snow Day.  And, because I am on Maui, and because of the cheerful demeanor of this snowman, I wanted to make sure he was bright and cheerful…  So I stamped his body in Smoke Slate and did his hat in Tempting Turquoise and buttons in Melon Mambo…  This is SURE to banish winter blues and ring in the new year with a smile!!

So, this blog tour will have 3 stops.  Besides my calendar, you will have the privilege of seeing Anne’s and Cheryl’s calendars as well.  They will publish on the first of every month for 2014… ENJOY!!
