In Bloom

Standard

So, if you know me, you know that I have developed quite a fondness for plants. Which is interesting, because I used to kill them. I contribute this to being BORED during the corona lockdowns… I figured out how not to kill them all.

WELL. A couple weeks ago, one of my cactuses (and I’m not sure what it is– but it’s a pretty tall one) sprouted a bud. That kept growing. and growing. And, every night and every morning I would go check to see if it opened… and kept waiting and waiting…. UNTIL:

AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH! I was so excited! So beautiful! SO BIG! And, it lasted a day… But, these are the beautiful suprises of nature! Just reminds us to take a moment to enjoy…

Which– My cactus bloom reminds me of this month’s stamp set: In Bloom (appropriately named, I might add).

This set is SO versatile and fun! I love this color scheme… I usually don’t reach for turquoises and blues for flowers, but I love how you can use them with is set… And, you can change the colors up and have a completely different feel. (Colors here are: bermuda bay coastal cabana, granny apple green, daffodil delight, and night of navy).

August means we are back to work. These blooms help brighten my mood–since I’m sad that summer is officially over…

Go see what Anne and Cheryl have to brighten your mood today! 🙂

Sweet September Sunflower

Standard

If you have followed me for ANY length of time, you will know that I CANNOT turn down a beautiful sunflower. I positively love sunflowers. In fact, I believe they are my favorite flower. Something about…. you can take the girl out of Kansas, but can’t take Kansas out of the girl…

Imagine my delight when we got a sunflower farm on Maui:

I cannot believe I get to live HERE. So many blessings…

When Stampin’ Up released Celebrate Sunflower, I just knew I had to have it. And, I knew it would be a lot of fun to use with our stampin’ blends. The blends make coloring a true joy…

September is the month that turns our minds towards fall and the anticipation of all the excitement that will be coming. I love the fall colors and pumpkins and cozy sweaters (except, the sweaters are not so good for where I live).

I used crumb cake as a good neutral background to this flower. And, used a variety of blends (including daffodil, mango, crumb cake, bronze, and soft suede. There are many ways to accomplish a variety of looks. Play around with coloring! You will find your favorite.

Vintage Hawaii

Standard

March has definitely roared in like a lion… as I write this I can hear the wind roaring through my trees… and I have constantly had to wipe the fine, gritty dirt off of every surface I’ve come in contact with. But that’s what spring and then summer brings here… And you know what else spring brings….?? Flowers. Lots and lots of beautiful flowers… like this hibiscus!

I love tropical flowers. They are so bright and cheery. That’s why I thought this hibiscus would be a gorgeous symbol of spring! It’s super easy to create this look. I stamped the hibiscus in mango ink and then sponged melon mambo into the center. I like how it can give that two-tone effect.
This hibiscus is from the Timeless Tropical stamp set. If you don’t have this in your collection, I highly recommend picking it up. It is a definite keeper.

Hello 2020!!

Standard

Happy New Year! I cannot believe it’s the new year again. My mind and body still feel like they’re back in September. And even more than that…I cannot believe it’s 2020. A whole new decade. 2020 was that fictious year back in the 80s when I was playing with my friends that I felt like was SOOOOO far into the future that we would be flying around Jetson style with personal jetpacks.

Anyway, I hope this new year and new decade will be a new start. Fresh. A beginning. Don’t get me wrong, I am thankful for the memories and lessons and friendships I’ve made, but I love a new year like getting a fresh clean notebook. So many options for how to begin.

So, we begin this year with THIS Happy New Year Celebration Stamp Set. It was stamp set that was originally released to the Japanese market, but demand was strong for it in Hawaii, so they released it to us! New Years here is a BIG deal and such a fun celebration.

I’m excited for what this year will bring. And I’m happy to celebrate the New Year with loved ones. I’m also very thankful for my stampin’ friends. You inspire me to new creativity each year.

Magical Day

Standard

Welcome to October!  Here in Maui, we are still waiting for summer to realize that it is time for fall.  But maybe this little wizard can help cast a spell for cooler temperatures!

When the stamp set Magical Day (now retired) came out, I just fell in love with it. (Remember the mermaid from August??). Anyway, this guy was in that set as well.

Orchids!

Standard

May’s calendar page was one I so enjoyed making… even in it’s extreme simplicity.  I love this little stamp set, Varied Vases.  It also has a coordinating punch (which is currently bundled at 10% off, but won’t be after May 31!)

I love that you can color the vase and flowers however you want.  And, for May, I wanted bright and cheerful!  And I LOVE orchids.  But, when they come into my home, they die.  A slow, painful, leaf by leaf death.  So, having STAMPED orchids allows me to enjoy the flower without harming any of the actual living plants!!  It’s a win-win!

Happy Mother’s Day to everyone!  Moms, aunties, sisters… all the wonderful women in our lives that have shaped and molded us into who we are.  I have several in my own life for whom I am eternally grateful.

Painted Harvest

Standard

Happy November!  We are officially embarking on the holiday season journey and I can’t think of a better way than to have a calendar page with this beautiful sunflower turned harvest flower stamp set!  I love this Painted Harvest set.  You can completely change the look with with whatever ink you choose.  Pastels make it very springy.  Brights are perfect for joyful celebrations.

Here, I chose soft suede as the petal ink and crushed curry for the center.  It is a super fast but beautiful stamp.  This set is so versatile.  If you don’t already have it in your collection, you should snatch it up.  Luckily, it is still a current set in the 2018-19 Stampin’ Up Idea Book and Catalog.

Take some time this month to pause and enjoy the holidays.  I am so thankful for so many blessings.  And, I am thankful that I have the opportunity to be creative.  That brings me so much joy.

If you enjoy being creative and would like to make your own calendar, this year, I have something new for you: The PDFs of these calendars!  It will look exactly like the calendar above (same fonts) but will be 2019.  For $5 you can get the files (calendar, cover page, and cutting instructions) and make as many calendars as you would like!  These make PERFECT gifts for family, friends, co-workers.  The easels are available in many craft and hobby stores.  They fit perfectly in the Stampin’ UP! clear card boxes and make a gorgeous gift.  Fill out the form below and I will email you an invoice through square.  Once paid, I will email you the files!

Pick a Pumpkin!

Standard

I LOVE all things fall. And at the risk of sounding like I have jumped on the “all things pumpkin spice bandwagon”, I do love pumpkins. (Don’t care for pumpkin spice so much though… ) Anyway, I’ve ALWAYS loved fall and miss it SO MUCH now that I live here in the islands… So, we try to MAKE it look like fall to try to trick my mind to thinking it is actually getting cooler…

So, it is with this in mind that I made this October calendar page! I used the Pick a Pumpkin bundle from the 2017 Holiday catalog (sorry, it’s now retired). But, I do love the pumpkins. And the fact that the face on the pumpkin can be optional. The coordinating framelits have so many wonderful stems and pieces to go with! I just love mixing them together.

I used pumpkin pie (of course) and cajun craze for inks. This set makes such happy little jack-o-lanterns!

If you’d like to make your own DIY Easel Calendar, this year I have the PDF available. It includes the 12 months of 2019, a 2019 cover page, and cutting instructions. The formatting and fonts are the same as this year’s calendar. The calendars are quick to stamp since the format is 3 1/2″ square, making them ideal gifts. The easels are available online as well as in most brick-and-mortar craft stores, and an easel plus calendar pages fit perfectly in the Stampin’ Up! Acetate Card Boxes.

Cost for the PDF is $5. Fill out the form below and I’ll send you an invoice via Square, and once you’ve paid I’ll email your PDF. You don’t need an account to pay via Square. It’s easy as can be!

Just a note…this is the honor system. $5 is a very reasonable price for this PDF, and there are no limitations on your personal use. If your friends admire your calendars, please direct them to this post to purchase their own PDF. It would be easy to forward the PDF, but it’s not right.

When you make your pages, upload to instagram and tag @hanniejoyandco so we can see your beautiful creations!

Eastern Palace Blooms

Standard

May Day is here! May always reminds me of full on floral blooms. Between May day in Hawaii where all the children in school have a May day program that celebrates all things floral in Hawaii (it’s more than that, but the flowers really take center stage). And mother’s day is full of flowers… May is really a blooming month! I love this Eastern Palace set because of all the intricate floral arrangements you can create with it. And they remind me of mandalas…which also remind me of flowers. I hope your May is full of flowers. Both in the literal and in the joy that life brings.
