Grateful

Standard

It’s that time of year where we again take stock of the things and people of who we are thankful. It seems silly though, that we cannot make this more of a daily occurrence and have to rely on the calendar for us to remember it. At least, I have this problem more often than not.

This year hits a little different– If you follow my Instagram (@hanniejoyandco) you will know that we’ve been dealing with some health issues with my husband. (You can read up on his story at @heart_for_aaron on Instagram). The short of it is that he needs a new heart. We were prepared to start this process in August and there were setbacks and challenges and changes. And, we learned in late Sept he was able to return to Maui to be with us as we wait for a heart for him. So, I am thankful. It’s bitter sweet in some respects— the type A in me wants to hurry up and get it done so we can put it behind us. But, I also see this gift of more time simply as a gift–and for that I am extremely grateful.

Of course, I knew NONE of this when I created this November calendar (back in November of LAST year—I make these to sell in December, so, they’ve got to be completed a year ahead). But, The sentiment perfectly describes my heart at this time. I’m so grateful for my family and that we are able to stay together at the moment. I’m grateful for the incredible support we have received from the community around us– in a time when that same community is mourning the most devastating fire Maui has ever seen. These past months have been surreal.

I love the softness and non traditional look of these colors. And, the images in the Soft Seedlings stamp set brings back nostalgic memories of playing with the ‘helicopters’ or whirly-birds in the yard with the fall leaves. I’m a little sad my children don’t get this experience here on Maui (but, hey— It’s 80 degrees at the moment that I write this and my family is dealing with below freezing highs today–so I get over it pretty quickly).

I used Petal Pink and Gray Granite to color the images. Ink the stamp with pink and then sponge gray around the edges. Simple stamping at it’s finest.

Hug your family and keep them close— we don’t know what tomorrow will bring us. But, for today, we will enjoy the moment and be thankful.

True Beauty of Autumn

Standard

Along about this time of year is when I start itching to blast all things fall: sweaters, candles, pumpkins, flannel….. It’s like turn the calendar and I wish you could flip a switch for instant fall. I think this is what I miss MOST being in Hawaii (I know…boo hoo….)

This stamp set is perfect for my fall dream. True Beauty. And, it’s a great stamp set because you can make it work for ANY season–just change up the colors! And, it’s an easy, fast way to mass produce (should you need to make lots of calendars or cards…)

I used crushed curry, pumpkin pie and cajun craze (see— FALL) to brighten up the page.

I hope you are beginning to enjoy some cooler weather— or will soon– September comes as a shock this year– my brain is still stuck in early 2023. But, 2023 is now 2/3 of the year over. It’s crazy. So– please join me, if you will, in welcoming fall, (this means you have permission to light the fall candles or diffuse the fall oils– you won’t be the only one), and head on over to see what Anne has for you today!

Oh…I need a Pomegranate Iced Tea….

Standard

Summer is heating up and that’s how we know August is here. And, this super cheerful Perfectly Pomegranate set reminds me of one of my favorite drinks: Pomegranate iced tea! I only get it when I am able to make my way to Nordstrom’ s ebar in Oahu– but, it’s definitely a delightful drink after a day of roaming Ala Moana… 🙂

The colors here also remind me of the the tea– the deep rich berry… And, when I saw this stamp set I knew it needed to have it’s own month.

I used poppy parade for the main color and a little of cherry cobbler to add the seed detail. Old olive provides the green…

You know… maybe I don’t have to go to Nordstrom— a little iced tea and and pom juice can do the trick!

Heavenly Hollyhocks

Standard

Happy JULY! I can’t think of a better way to welcome a big, bold month than with a big bold flower!

I decided to pay homage to our freedom celebration by choosing a red(ish) color to create the hollyhocks– this is sweet sorbet. (I had a very inky ink pad and so it seems a bit darker than perhaps it should be, but I liked it so we went with it!) Sprinkled the center with daffodil delight.

I feel like, if you use your imagination you can imagine these as fireworks exploding open. I also think the hollyhock could easily be transformed into a hibiscus… that would be fun….

I hope you’re having a wonderful summer, and that you have a moment to reflect on all the freedoms we enjoy in our country. We live in a special place.

Best Butterflies

Standard

Ah June. The golden glory that is summertime (for every teacher). Lazy days, time with friends and family, and time to watch butterflies.

But these butterflies are so cute— I just had to use them!

My favorite part about these butterflies are that the pieces are all separate so you can give a lot of variety to how the images come out.

I wanted a bright and cheerful look so I used flirty flamingo, mango melody, costal cabana, and Tahitian tide.

I hope you have an opportunity this month to have a picnic on the lawn so you can just watch the beauty that surrounds us.

Cup o’ Flowers

Standard

I don’t know exactly why that this set SCREAMED April to me, but when I saw it, I knew it had to be… (maybe the april showers bring may flowers… ??) Except we will have flowers in APRIL!

This Cup of Tea set is super versatile! I love the hints of spring time by choosing the fresh freesia and parakeet party to brighten up the page. It easily could work for fall too, with some simple swaps of color.

I used smoky slate for the cup base and developed a super simple, easy image to use on cards, calendars, tags… you name it!

April is always a promising month to me— means only 1 page turn until May–which is the RELEASE to summer! HOORAY!

Singing in March

Standard

Even though spring doesn’t OFFICIALLY begin until later March, if you ask me, I start looking to spring as soon as we turn the calendar page to March. And what better way is there to bring in March than with this songbird?

Costal Cabana is the perfect color for our sweet soloist. And, spring blooms with flirty flamingo flowers and pear pizzazz leaves. I love this stamp set. Such sweet imagery is perfect for cards and calendars!

For me, March means SPRING BREAK is imminent. And, then it’s whirlwind of crazy which seems to fly by and THEN IT IS SUMMER. Glorious summer. Now, I realize we have 2 more calendar pages before summer, but IT IS GETTING SO CLOSE. I can FEEL it.

True Beauty

Standard

Well— January just flew by— I feel like it was just a blink ago that we were welcoming the new year!

As we look forward to the month of love— just wanted to have you take a peek at this stamp set: True Beauty.

Old olive and polished pink give it the valentine vibes, but using florals helps keep it more ‘all occasion’. I personally love these types of stamp sets. The solid images allow for #simplesstampin’ and you can change up the color scheme to completely change the feel of the images. It’s a perfect, all around just solid floral to have in your collection.

I actually have a small handful of these calendars still available! They’re on sale half off! If you’re interested, contact me and we can arrange local pick up or shipping. This could be a fun little gift for your ‘galentine’!

Our friend, Cheryl will be taking a break this month, but go check out the project Anne has for you!

Thankful

Standard

Fall colors are my thing. I just love them. However, living in Hawaii, I don’t get to see many— (I’m sure many people must think that is such a small sacrifice compared to all the beauty that does surround me, and they would not be wrong—but I still miss it). So, when I have opportunity, I CREATE FALL COLOR!

For this post, I cheated. I used Christmas Season stamp set. But, it is a prime example of how you can make stamps work for MANY occasions!! Just a few changes of colors and BAM, you’ve got a whole new season!

The colors used here are Bumble Bee, Blackberry Bliss, Evening Evergreen, Cajun Craze and Soft Suede. These make the perfect fall pallet. I just LOVE blackberry bliss. (Ok, well I love all of them…)

Anyway, I know it is trite, but I do love this season–because it makes us pause and give thanks. And, we have lots to give thanks for. Especially now– when the world seems to be burning down around us– it’s always good to remember that HE sustains us and nothing is a surprise. He has all things to work our for our good and for HIS glory. Sometimes (a lot of the time) it doesn’t make sense, but that’s why He is God and I am not.

I am thankful for all of you too. I’m thankful I have a space to be creative and that I can connect with other creative people and that I have found a tribe on this big planet Earth that gives me such joy.

Speaking of tribe: Head on over to see what Anne and Cheryl have prepared for you!

And, thank you. Thank you, God for your amazing gift of grace–that we will be celebrating here in a few short weeks–but may we never lose sight of that blessing and gift.

Hey, Boo!

Standard

Isn’t this the cutest little ghost you’ve ever seen? But, what is scary to me… is that it is already Oct 1. We are officially finished with the first quarter of the school year and I feel like we started about two weeks ago…

Anyboo– (see what I did there???) Fall has arrived– at least in the stores. Though I woke up to some rain–that I’m hoping is the beginning of our Hawaiian winter.

This super cute little ghost was from the Cutest Halloween set (now retired) — and it had a matching punch. Putting this all together went lickety-split because of those handy little punches…

The colors here are super simple: Pumpkin Pie and Gorgeous Grape… and a little swash of a blend in the grape to outline the ghost hands and a dab of flamingo blend for the grin.

Head over to see if Anne and Cheryl have anything scary for you today!!
